A note from Stuart Zadel

This past weekend is the first weekend I've had free in ages and I have to say I've certainly enjoyed being able to stay home and potter around the house; a rare experience for me this year. It also coincided with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games and if there's one thing I love every four years, it's three weeks of Olympic sport on TV! Go Aussie!!

You may know I have a history in competitive sports and these days I often see a few people at the Olympics that I used to play against or know. One thing I noticed when I was trying to make it as a soccer player was that with each passing year, more and more people would drop out of the game. Life's other priorities crept in and became more important as time progressed, such as earning a living, having a family and work commitments. This is where I first learnt that persistence is a defining factor in any person's life.

You might like to keep this in mind when you watch the Olympics this week. Below are some very cheeky cartoons you might enjoy, from the last world cup..

"Without persistence you will be defeated, ever before you start. With persistence you will win."

Napoleon Hill

Weekly Success Tip

This coming Friday morning I'll be giving a presentation to a business group in Brisbane. Whilst it's my first time speaking at this particular club, I have been speaking for this organisation now in other states for the past three years. They always start the meeting with a 'Quote of the Day' and the quote I share has been the same one at over 20 presentations. It's from a guy named Josh Billings: 'Consider the postage stamp, it sole usefulness consists in it's ability to stick to one thing until it gets there'.

For me, this quote is key. Napoleon Hill said after 25 years of intense practical research, the only difference he ever found between the Ford's, Carnegie's and Edison's of this world and the average person on the street was Persistence.

Understand, it's one thing to desire a better life, a higher paying job, a successful business or financial success, it's another thing entirely to stick it out until you get there.

If you say each day on your way to town you will cross the bridge and throw a pebble in the stream for a whole year, most people will do it once or twice and then say, 'Oh what's the use, let me just throw a whole bunch of pebbles in and be done with it'. No, a pebble a day is just that, one pebble a day. No more, no less. And this, requires persistence.

Napoleon Hill said, "Lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. Moreover, experience with thousands of people has proved, that lack of persistence is a weakness common to the majority of people. It is a weakness which may be overcome by effort. The ease with which lack of persistence may be conquered will depend entirely upon the intensity of one's desire."

Now that I've shared the above with you, you may catch a glimpse of the significance of the task I often assign to people; 'Read one page a day of Think and Grow Rich for the rest of your life'

Action Step: Persistence is a state of mind, therefore it can be cultivated. This week's action step is to pick any menial, repetitive activity that can help you to move toward one of your goals and commit to doing it every day for thirty days.

Set yourself the task to read the chapter on persistence in Think and Grow Rich every day for thirty days
